But the last stone carries a particular resonance for anyone who knows Lange's history. It was the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 that made possible the re-establishment of A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte, after decades of expropriation under East German rule. That’s when Mr. Walter Lange relaunched the manufacture in 1990—the very year that stone was set into this façade. We stood there for longer than expected.
The Tribune Tower ResidencesThis past week, we were in Chicago for the grand opening celebration of the new A. Lange & Söhne boutique, and while we were there, we were invited to visit the Tribune Tower Residences, which are majestic. During that visit, we were granted access to the upper crown of the building, and nothing quite prepares you for it. The elevator releases you into silence, and once you walk outside, the Gothic stonework closes around you, and the effect is genuinely unique, with the most incredible views of the Chicago River, the Jeweler’s Building, and the Wrigley Building sitting high with its tower clock and skywalk. Chicago stretches in every direction, the river bends beneath you, Lake Michigan fills the eastern horizon, and the Magnificent Mile is at your feet.

Up there, inside that crown, the noise of the street disappears entirely, and the cold wind gusts—despite this time of the year—give you chills, the same chills you feel in places built with the intention of permanence like cathedrals, city landmarks, or watch manufactures. Surrounded by that splendor, all we could think about was how much we have always liked Chicago, how much we miss it, and how special we felt to be invited on this tour by A. Lange & Söhne. You just can’t buy a ticket for this kind of priceless experience.

Before becoming Tribune Tower Residences, the building was acquired by developers CIM Group and Golub & Company in 2016, who undertook its transformation, which was completed in 2021. What the developers understood is that the Chicago Tribune Tower's value lies precisely in its historic fabric: the soaring ceiling heights, the Gothic tracery, the stone corridors that no new construction could replicate. The residences preserve all of it while delivering contemporary finishes that match the building's stature. One- and two-bedroom configurations have already sold out. The lobby, with its Ruskin inscription set into the floor — When we build, let us think that we build forever—sets the tone before you reach the elevator.

Grand Opening CelebrationLater in the day, after a wonderful conversation with Mr. Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Söhne—interview here—, we headed to the grand opening celebration, which was held in one of the amenity rooms inside the residences, and Lange made every detail count. CEO Wilhelm Schmid and U.S. president Charles Langlois were both in attendance, a signal, if one were needed, of how seriously the manufacture regards this market and this moment.

A watchmaker's station was set up in the room as well, drawing a steady crowd of guests—mostly local savvy watch collectors and even out-of-towners, including Paul, aka @alangejourney on IG—who rarely get to observe the technical reality behind the watches they collect. Watching a Lange movement under the microscope in a room like that, in a building like this, is not something you forget easily, just like the Zeitwerk on the wrist of Lange’s master watchmaker Robert Hoffmann.
The food program, curated by ilixr—led by Simon Davies, who worked at Alinea—, was an unapologetic embrace of Saxony: Bavarian pretzels with aged Gouda-beer cheese and cultured thyme butter; Würstl with bratwurst and currywurst, alongside truffle-potato salad; Käsespätzle elevated with braised Wagyu short rib and red crab; and Apfelstrudel to close. And let’s not forget the passed hors d'oeuvres—especially the schnitzel sliders—and the A. Lange & Söhne inspired ice-rock cubes. The cocktail menu followed suit with several interesting options, including the Tribune, built with Legent Bourbon and Carpano Antica, finished with roasted rhubarb syrup, and the Saxony, a non-alcoholic Seedlip Garden 108 with snap pea and lemon. Ruinart Blanc de Blancs was the champagne of choice, with William Fèvre Chablis Champs Royaux and a Domaine Faiveley Clos des Myglands Burgundy rounding it out. Radeberger—the brewery from Radeberg, a town fewer than 30 km from Glashütte—was the beer on offer, and the choice was pointed. Lange does not make accidental decisions.

The A. Lange & Söhne boutique occupies 131 square meters—1,409 sq. ft.—on the ground floor of the tower, and the fit is exact. The space is designed not as a conventional watch retail environment but as an immersive encounter with the Lange universe: three distinct client seating areas, including two private lounges, and bespoke installations that present the brand’s mechanical arguments better than any display case alone could. A dedicated installation examines the jumping numerals architecture of the Zeitwerk. Another addresses the manufacture's tourbillon construction. Hand-finishing techniques—the beveling, the Glashütte ribbing, the mirror-polished steel—are presented with the close attention they deserve. There is no ambient pressure here, no transactional urgency. The boutique is built for the unhurried visit, which is the only kind worth having with watches at this level.

After more than three decades of watch collecting, we find that the settings where great watches live matter much more than most people realize. Tribune Tower doesn't just provide a backdrop for A. Lange & Söhne. It makes the argument for the brand before you've seen a single watch. Perhaps the fragment of the Berlin Wall embedded in the façade was not just a sign—it was an omen. The A. Both vintage automobiles and haute horlogerie require patience, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to detail. Both represent a rejection of disposable culture in favor of objects designed to last generations. And both create communities of passionate enthusiasts who understand that the journey of appreciation is as important as the destination of ownership.
As the Audrain Concours continues to establish itself as the preeminent East Coast concours event—now in its sixth year—A. Lange & Söhne's involvement feels less like sponsorship and more like a natural alliance between kindred spirits in the pursuit of mechanical perfection. For more info on A. Lange & Söhne click here.

Personalization of the CaseOn the exterior, the most immediately visible modification beyond the dial is the bezel. The original steel tachymetre bezel has been replaced with a deep brown ceramic insert. The colour choice is deliberate: brown echoes the limonite veins running through the turquoise, creating a chromatic link between the bezel and the dial material. The tachymetre markings are retained, with "TACHYMETRE" rendered in red—another nod to the Daytona's identity even as the watch departs from it.
The case itself has been refined, most notably by removing the crown guards. This is a modification Artisans de Genève has executed on previous Daytona projects, and it gives the case profile a cleaner, more vintage-inflected silhouette that recalls the pre-ref. 16520 era. The pushers are polished steel. The hands are rhodium with white paint and SuperLuminova GL C1, featuring stamped and angled heads—a small finishing detail that elevates them beyond the standard Daytona hand set. The bracelet is the client's original Oyster bracelet, left unmodified.
Modifications to the MovementBeneath the stone, the Rolex Calibre 4130 has been skeletonized in what Artisans de Genève describes as a "neon-style" architecture. The bridges and plates are finished in matte anthracite, giving the visible movement a dark, contemporary tone that contrasts sharply with the vivid turquoise above. The balance bridge is a signature Artisans de Genève element: cut from a block of hardened steel, hand-bevelled, and finished with black polish. The wheels are nickel palladium. Viewed through the sub-dials or through the display caseback, the movement reads as deliberately industrial—the kind of aesthetic language you'd associate with independent watchmaking rather than a Rolex calibre. The case back is also worth noting. The rotor is custom-made in tungsten and bears an X logo executed in grand feu enamel, a small but technically non-trivial detail that adds a signature flourish visible only to the owner. The case back engraving reads "Artisans de Genève" and includes the client's initials.
Summary & PriceFor a collector drawn to the idea of a truly singular Daytona—one whose dial is shaped by geology rather than industrial production—the Spider Challenge makes a persuasive case. The turquoise will never look quite the same as any other piece of turquoise, and the combination of materials and finishing techniques employed here puts this firmly in the territory of applied art rather than accessory modification.Sticker Price CHF 39,520—approx. USD 49,500. The price of the service does not include the watchand varies based on the level of personalization required. The watch has to be supplied by the owner for personalization. The project was commissioned privately and does not constitute a commercial offer. For more info on Artisans de Genève, click here.

Patek Philippe has selected watches that trace the Nautilus across the distinct phases of its existence—the original ref. 3700 in steel, the expansions into precious metals and complications, the era of the perpetual calendar, the chronograph references, the Tiffany stamped watches, the Women's Nautilus, the anniversary editions that punctuated its evolution decade by decade, and the 2026 50th anniversary limited series in four exclusive references that visitors can see in the flesh.
The Patek Philippe Museum is one of the great horological institutions in the world. Located at Rue des Vieux-Grenadiers 7 in the Plainpalais district of Geneva—a neighborhood that carries its own kind of quiet cultural authority—the Museum houses a collection spanning from the 16th century through the entirety of Patek’s production history. It is not a large building, nor a theatrical space. It is a meticulous, well-curated space. The curatorial approach prioritizes historical accuracy and archival integrity over spectacle, and that same sensibility appears to govern this thematic exhibition. In a year when the watch industry has produced a great deal of noise around the Nautilus at fifty, the Museum is offering something different: depth.

If you are planning a trip to Geneva before early 2027, this exhibition belongs on your itinerary without qualification. For collectors who have followed the Nautilus closely and who understand what made the original ref. 3700 iconic and enduring, this is the opportunity to see the archival materials that document its creation, alongside a curated selection of the references that defined each decade of its history, which is not something that will be replicated. The exhibition runs through early 2027.Patek Philippe Museum, Rue des Vieux-Grenadiers 7, Geneva, SwitzerlandHours of Operation: Tuesday to Friday 2 pm – 6 pmSaturday 10 am – 6 pm and Sunday 2 pm - 6 pmClosed on Swiss national holidays and MondaysFor more info on the Patek Philippe Museum click here and for the Manufacture and Collections here.

The exhibition unfolds across four chapters. The Story of an Icon retells the Reverso's origins through rarely seen archive materials and milestone watches. The Story of Design examines the Reverso as a quintessential expression of Art Deco design, anchored by the Golden Ratio. The Story of Innovation highlights the spirit of invention from the first idea for a reversible case in 1931 to ground-breaking complications designed for its rectangular shape. The Story of Craftsmanship pays tribute to the engravers, gem-setters, enamellers, and guillochage masters of the Métiers Rares atelier.

Horological depth is anchored by the Reverso Hybris Mechanica Caliber 185 with its four dials — one of the most ambitious complications Jaeger-LeCoultre has ever produced—alongside high-jewelry creations, miniature-painted dials, and references spanning more than nine decades. The "Reverso-The Makings of a Great Story" vitrine presents a deconstructed Reverso alongside watchmaker's tools and components, while a separate display features the Giganto, a large-scale replica of Calibre 854 with full perlage decoration—a seldom-seen window into the finishing work from the Manufacture's craft.
The Miami edition also incorporates three collaborations under Jaeger-LeCoultre's Made of Makers program. Webcomic designer Olivecoat has produced an archive-inspired narrative retelling the Reverso's history through sequential art, while digital media artist Yiyun Kang— whose work appeared at the heart of the New York exhibition in 2023—contributes "Origin" once again, a large-scale 3D video sculpture drawing on the Golden Ratio proportions that have defined the Reverso's case since 1931.
The Reverso 1931 Café Comes to Miami Design DistrictThe 1931 Café returns as the multisensory close of the journey. We covered the original 1931 Café when it opened on Madison Avenue in 2022, and our subsequent Experience editorial after spending an evening and a morning there. What sets this concept apart is its insistence that hospitality is part of the brand's storytelling. The Miami iteration maintains the signature Art Deco identity—the black-and-white geometric tile floor laid in trompe-l'œil cubes, matte-black round tables, and tableware embossed with the 1931 Café monogram that traces back to Alex Trochut's 1931 Alphabet, originally introduced as a Made of Makers collaboration in 2022. Large-format photographic prints of Nina Métayer's signature creations serve as artwork in their own right, framing the interior.
French pastry chef Nina Métayer—named World's Best Pastry Chef in 2024—has long collaborated with Jaeger-LeCoultre on pastries, translating the flavors of the Vallée de Joux into edible form, and her signature creations reappear in Miami under glass cloches on marble pedestals. For the Miami edition, Métayer has introduced a city-specific signature: a tropical smoothie called "Splendeur Tropicale," finished with a sun-dried pineapple slice perched over the rim. Alongside it sits a companion iced-coffee creation, finished with a delicate chocolate lattice bridge laid across the rim—the kind of detail that, like a Métiers Rares dial, rewards a closer look.
The Café also doubles as a takeaway point for the Maison's editorial materials, with copies of The Reverso — Jaeger-LeCoultre's softcover book featuring the iconic blue-dial Reverso—alongside The Reverso Stories exhibition guide.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Salon at The Moore MiamiBeyond Sweet Bird North, Jaeger-LeCoultre is also operating a temporary dedicated client lounge—The Salon—at The Moore Miami (4040 NE 2nd Ave, 2nd floor), offering private appointments and collector consultations ahead of the planned boutique opening later this Summer. The Moore's sculpted biomorphic atrium provides a striking architectural counterpoint to the Art Deco geometry of the pop-up, signaling how seriously the Maison is approaching this moment in the U.S. market.
The Reverso Stories Pop-Up is open to the public and free of charge from May 21 through May 31, 2026. The Maison's first pop-up in the heart of the Miami Design District is more than a celebration of a single icon — it is a statement of intent about Jaeger-LeCoultre's place in one of the most important design and luxury destinations in the Americas. For anyone in Miami or planning a visit over the next ten days, this is a must-see.

As soon as I walked in, I was blown away that MB&F had taken over this space and spent over a year and a half on the necessary renovations before moving in at the end of 2022. What used to be a family home is now the home of Max Büsser and Friends, still a family home where some incredible watches are designed and finished from top to bottom.
Exquisitely decorated with modern furniture, objects from the M.A.D. Gallery, their prizes from the GPHG, and one of the last incredible clocks by renowned clockmaker Jean Kazes at the bottom of the M.A.D. House’s staircase. Jean Kazes is world-renowned for clocks at the entrance of the Patek Philippe manufacture and at the Geneva train station, among other places. Considering that MB&F are curators of kinetic art and their timepieces are kinetic sculptures for the wrist, every corner of the space has been filled with incredible pieces of art, including some of their iconic clocks, such as the Medusa clock.

Situated in what used to be the dining room of this incredible house, at the time of our visit in 2023, eight watchmakers worked from top to bottom to create MB&F watches. As I walked around the space, I was still fascinated by the decor and the eclectic mix of modern and antique design throughout.

Within the MB&F M.A.D. House, all operations related to watchmaking are conducted. These operations include sketches, CAD design, 3D printing of cases to evaluate proportions, an inspection of every component that will go into the watch, color palette selection, assembly, timing, regulation, and quality control. In this new home, also all post-sales service is performed including servicing for timepieces that have not even been purchased brand new directly through MB&F.

And at the very top level is where Max Büsser’s office is located. As I was expecting from such a genius in the watch world, his office is not a corner office —as most would’ve expected— but a quiet simple space where the making happens when he is creating their kinetic sculptures for the wrist. Exquisitely decorated with a small living area at the end of the room, this space is as Zen as it gets.
Lastly, as good as MB&F is with their watches, so are they with their hospitality and the desserts. How could I not mention that this was the best bite-size lemon merengue pie I’ve ever had in my life. An incredible new space for MB&F and an extremely enjoyable visit to one of our favorite independent watchmakers. For more info on MB&F click here.
