But from November 1st through 24th, Jaeger-LeCoultre is giving watch enthusiasts a compelling reason to make the trip. The Adventure Spirit Traveling Collection has arrived at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, bringing along eight decades of sports watch history. This isn't just another boutique display. La Grande Maison has curated a narrative-driven exhibition that traces the evolution of the sports watch through four distinct chapters, each anchored in a moment of cultural shift and technical innovation. It's museum-quality content, accessible to anyone willing to book a reservation. The Traveling Collection brings together some genuinely rare pieces from JLC's sports watch archives—models that demonstrate how the Manufacture balanced ruggedness with refinement across eight decades. Among the highlights is the Geophysic, a watch that has built its reputation on three qualities that never go out of style: accuracy, durability, and dependability. This Geophysic was presented to the commander of the Nautilus submarine after it reached the North Pole in August 1958. That's not just a watch with history—that's a watch that made history. Four Chapters, One Common ThreadThe story begins with Military Watches of the 1940s. When precision timekeeping meant the difference between life and death for RAF pilots, Jaeger-LeCoultre delivered robust, legible instruments that could survive the cockpit. Function first, everything else second. View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_MONTRE_MILITAIRE.jpg View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_PILOTWATCH_MARK_XI_MILITAIRE.jpg Chapter two dives deep into Diving Watches. The 1960s saw the emergence of specialized underwater timepieces, and JLC's contribution was characteristically ingenious: the Memovox Deep Sea, the world's first diving watch with an alarm complication. Not just a beep, but a vibration you could feel through your wetsuit. Practical innovation at its finest. In an era of dive computers and smart devices, there's something deeply satisfying about a purely mechanical solution to underwater timekeeping. The tactile vibration, the acoustic alarm – it's analog problem-solving at its most elegant. View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_MEMOVOX_DEEPSEA-1961.jpg View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_SHARK_DEEPSEA-1969.jpg Then came the 1970s, and with it, creative chaos. Bold Sports Watches celebrates that decade's aesthetic disruption – new forms, unconventional displays, fearless use of color. JLC maintained the technical fundamentals while completely rewriting the design language. It's a reminder that sports watches don't have to look serious to be serious. The final chapter jumps to the millennium with High Concept Sports Watches, exemplified by the Master Compressor line. Here, we see technology and design marrying in increasingly complex ways. The Master Compressor Extreme LAB 2, with its 569 components, GMT function, and power reserve indicator, represents sports watchmaking as high-performance engineering. View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_MASTER COMPRESSORjpg.jpg View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_MASTER COMPRESSOR.jpg View fullsize THEADVENTURESPIRIT_MASTER COMPRESSOR_MEMOVOX.jpg Jaeger-LeCoultre's sports watch heritage often gets overshadowed by its dress watches and complications. The Adventure Spirit corrects that narrative. It demonstrates that the same Manufacture that gave us the Reverso and the Atmos clock has been quietly innovating in the sports category for nearly a century.‘The Adventure Spirit’ exhibition runs from November 1st through 24th at the JLC Las Vegas boutique at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 9 PM. Admission is free, but a reservation is required. Book your guided tour directly through Jaeger-LeCoultre's website or call the boutique at (702) 854-6386 to schedule your visit.More info on Jaeger-LeCoultre here. The watch collecting community is mourning the loss of Jean-Marie Schaller, the founder and CEO of Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, who passed away peacefully on May 16 at the age of 66, following an illness that had kept him from attending Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026.Born in Switzerland in 1959, Schaller came to watchmaking through commerce rather than craft. He trained in advertising and marketing before discovering the industry while working for the trading company Siber Hegner in the 1980s. He eventually led the relaunch of Perrelet as its CEO before joining Lacoste Watches as marketing director—a career trajectory that gave him an unusually clear-eyed view of both the business and the culture of watches. It was a rare combination, and one that would shape everything he built in the decades that followed. The founding of Les Ateliers Louis Moinet in Saint-Blaise, Neuchâtel, in 2004 was not a conventional brand launch. Schaller had spent years quietly researching one of the most overlooked names in horological history— a 19th-century watchmaker, astronomer, and author who had been all but erased from the record. Louis Moinet, the man, had trained under Abraham-Louis Breguet, authored the most comprehensive watchmaking treatise of his era, and crafted a remarkable clock for Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806. None of that had stopped his name from falling into complete obscurity. Schaller set about changing that. The most consequential moment in that effort came in 2012, when Schaller acquired a Moinet pocket watch at auction in Geneva. Subsequent research confirmed it to be the world's first chronograph, predating the instruments previously credited with that distinction by several years. The discovery rewrote a foundational chapter of horological history and gave Louis Moinet something no marketing exercise could manufacture: a story that was entirely, verifiably true. From that foundation, Schaller built a brand with two distinct creative identities. The Mechanical Wonders collection pursued complications with rigor and invention, while Cosmic Art—perhaps his most personal expression as a maker—drew on his own decades-long passion for meteorites and celestial objects. The Cosmopolis, a unique timepiece incorporating inserts from twelve different meteorites, remains one of the most singular objects produced by any independent manufacture. Schaller understood that a watch could be a vessel for something far larger than timekeeping, and he pursued that idea with consistency and conviction throughout his career. He was also, by every account, a singular presence in person. His love of color was well known—he was rarely seen at industry events without a boldly patterned suit—worn not for effect, but with the ease of someone entirely comfortable in his own skin. In an industry that can default toward a certain studied conservatism, Schaller's warmth and individuality stood out.He is survived by his wife and children: Micaela, Raphaëlle, Dominique, Christopher, and Nathanaël. The family has asked that those wishing to honor his memory consider a charitable donation in lieu of flowers, and has invited attendees to reflect his love of color in their choice of dress. A ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Temple d'Auvernier, 2 Chemin des Rochettes, 2012 Auvernier.Jean-Marie Schaller spent twenty years proving that a forgotten name could become one of independent watchmaking's most distinctive voices. That work stands on its own.Watch Collecting Lifestyle extends its sincere condolences to the Schaller family and to all who had the privilege of knowing him. The deal, announced today from La Chaux-de-Fonds, strengthens an existing commercial relationship that has already yielded tangible results for TAG Heuer and Tiffany & Co.For collectors following the industry's supply chain dynamics, this partnership represents more than financial maneuvering. La Joux-Perret brings serious horological credentials—employing 140 specialists in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the manufacture controls its entire value chain from development through final assembly, producing automatic movements, complications, and high-precision solar quartz calibers for prestigious watchmaking houses. The collaboration between LVMH's watch brands and La Joux-Perret isn't new territory. Since 2022, TAG Heuer has partnered with the manufacturer on solar quartz movement development—technology now powering the brand's Aquaracer and Formula 1 collections. The partnership extends to Tiffany & Co.'s Rope watch, with other LVMH maisons set to benefit from La Joux-Perret's technical mastery moving forward. What makes this acquisition particularly interesting is its structure. Rather than a full buyout, LVMH's Watches Division—comprising Hublot, TAG Heuer, and Zenith—has taken a minority position while establishing a deepened commercial partnership. La Joux-Perret maintains its independence and existing client relationships, while parent company Citizen Group retains majority ownership. It's a model that preserves the manufacturer's Swiss identity and creative autonomy while providing LVMH's brands with enhanced production capabilities. Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of LVMH's Watches Division, emphasized the partnership's focus on sustainable high-precision movements, particularly leveraging solar energy expertise—a technology gaining traction among collectors seeking reduced maintenance intervals without sacrificing Swiss manufacturing standards. The strategic rationale becomes clearer considering LVMH's broader Swiss manufacturing footprint of 16 manufactures. This partnership reinforces those investments at the heart of the watchmaking industry while providing La Joux-Perret with long-term development prospects. For collectors, the implications extend beyond corporate structure. Access to La Joux-Perret's movement development capabilities could accelerate innovation across LVMH's watch brands, potentially introducing new complications and technical solutions that blend traditional Swiss craftsmanship with modern manufacturing efficiency. The emphasis on solar quartz technology particularly signals where the industry may be heading for sports and daily-wear collections. As consolidation continues to reshape the Swiss watch industry's supply chain, partnerships like this demonstrate how major groups are securing technical capabilities while respecting the independence that makes Swiss manufacturing distinctive. The question now is what innovations emerge from this strengthened alliance.More info on Manufacture La Joux-Perret here. And then there are those who leave their mark on the entire industry. Mr. Philippe Stern was the latter. Patek Philippe announced today, Monday, June 15, 2026, that its Honorary President passed away on June 14, 2026, at age 88. Born into the Watch IndustryMr. Philippe Stern was born in 1938 in Geneva, the third generation of a family whose name had become inseparable from Patek Philippe. His grandfather Charles, and Charles's brother Jean—dial makers running Cadrans Stern Frères—acquired the struggling manufacture during the Great Depression in 1932. His father Henri built the American market through the Henri Stern Watch Agency before returning to Geneva as president in 1958. Philippe joined the Agency in New York in 1963, returned to Geneva in 1966, and spent the following decade working across departments, absorbing the manufacture from the inside. At Patek Philippe, successors must share not only blood but values, visions, and understanding. Mr. Philippe Stern embodied all three. In 1977, Mr. Philippe Stern was appointed General Director right into the peak of the quartz crisis. Japanese manufacturers had industrialized precision timekeeping at a fraction of the cost of a mechanical movement. Historic Swiss names were collapsing or folding into conglomerates. Stern looked at that landscape and refused to pivot. He believed there remained a place for the handcrafted mechanical timepiece and for the collector who understood a watch could be something more than an instrument of timekeeping. He doubled down on independence. He doubled down on craft. He was right. That conviction is the reason Patek Philippe today stands where it does. What He BuiltHis instinct for where the market was heading played a direct role in the launch of the Nautilus in 1976— Gérald Genta's steel sports watch that opened Patek to an entirely new clientele. That watch celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. In the early 1980s he initiated the Calibre 89—33 complications, nine years of development, the most complicated portable mechanical timepiece ever made at its 1989 debut. As President from 1993, he centralized production at the Plan-les-Ouates manufacture in 1996, opened the Patek Philippe Museum in 2001—housing 2,500 timepieces assembled over four decades of personal collecting—and, in 2009, formalized the Patek Philippe Seal, the manufacture’s own quality standard that exceeds any external certification in the industry. He also championed Rare Handcrafts through lean years, preserving enamel work and miniature painting when the market had no appetite for them. The Succession and What It SaysWhen Mr. Philippe Stern handed the presidency to his son Mr. Thierry Stern in 2009, he left the manufacture not just intact but transformed. In 2023, Mr. Thierry Stern honored him with the Ref. 1938P-001—a 30-piece platinum minute repeater alarm bearing a miniature enamel portrait of his father on the dial, powered by a movement developed exclusively for the piece and never to be used again. That a sitting president would commission such a watch for a living predecessor tells you everything about what Mr. Philippe Stern meant to the family. He was also, by all accounts, a man of remarkable character—a competitive alpine skier, an avid sailor, a devoted husband and father whose love of Lac Léman—Lake Geneva—was noted in the official communiqué de presse alongside his industrial legacy. A Personal Note From the Editor I have spent over 36 years as a collector, and in that time, owning several Patek Philippe timepieces, the brand has been the immovable point around which serious watch collecting orbits. The slogan Mr. Philippe Stern commissioned—"You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation"— is the most famous line in the history of watch advertising. My deepest and most sincere condolences to his family, friends, all employees at Patek Philippe, the city of Geneva, Switzerland, and the whole watch industry.—Halim Trujillo, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Watch Collecting Lifestyle Posted on June 15, 2026 by Editor & Publisher and filed under Patek Philippe, News and tagged 2026 Most Popular Patek Philippe Philippe Stern Passes Philippe Stern. The ceremonial opening took place on March 19, 2026.The facility occupies a historic building constructed in 1955 that once served as Eterna's headquarters. The connection runs deeper than geography: in 1995, the building was acquired by F.A.P. Beteiligungen GmbH, a company tied to Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and his son. Between 1996 and 2014, Porsche Design timepieces were manufactured on site under license from Eterna. After the building was decommissioned in 2012 and sat vacant for years, Porsche Design acquired it in May 2024 and completed a full modernization in roughly 18 months, relocating from its previous site in nearby Solothurn last fall. The 3,600-square-meter facility currently houses 10 watchmaker workstations in an ISO 7 cleanroom, with benches operating at an ISO 5 level. Climate is tightly regulated—five air changes per hour, humidity held between 40% and 50%, and access restricted through a dedicated airlock requiring protective clothing. Production follows what Porsche Design describes as a sequential manufacturing principle, with integrated gravity-fed conveyor logistics connecting storage directly to the cleanroom. Annual capacity stands at up to 10,000 units, with room to scale further. A ground-floor exhibition traces the evolution of Porsche Design Timepieces since 1972, while a dedicated "Fitting Lounge" allows customers to configure custom-built watches on site and collect them after production — bringing configuration, manufacturing, and handover under one roof for the first time. Guided factory tours will be offered, and in a characteristically Porsche touch, customers can drive their car directly into the manufacture. On the sustainability front, 211 rooftop solar panels generate a peak output of 134 kW, covering approximately 62% of the facility's energy needs. A heat pump system, heat-recovery ventilation, and cold-default faucets round out the efficiency measures, with estimated CO₂ savings of roughly 58,500 kg per year. Porsche Design frames the opening as a strategic milestone for parent company Porsche AG, positioning itself as the only automotive manufacturer operating its own watch manufacture. CEO Rolf Bergmann emphasized customization as the portfolio's centerpiece, with individually configured one-of-a-kind pieces at the core of the offering—a deliberate parallel to sports car configuration. The real question for collectors is whether Porsche Design can translate automotive credibility and production infrastructure into horological relevance at a level that commands sustained attention from serious watch enthusiasts. The facility and its capabilities are undeniably impressive on paper. What will matter is what comes off those ten benches. For more info on Porsche Design, click here. Perspective: COSC Raises the Bar. But How High?

But How High? For over half a century, the COSC chronometer certification has served as Swiss watchmaking's most widely recognized quality benchmark. Millions of movements have passed through the laboratories in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Locle, and Bienne, emerging with a certificate that confirms one thing: this movement keeps time within the parameters defined by ISO 3159. It is a standard that has remained essentially unchanged since 1973—an eternity in an industry that otherwise never tires of invoking the word "innovation."Today, on the 50th anniversary of that ISO standard, the COSC announces a second tier of certification: the Excellence Chronometer. Where the existing standard tests uncased movements over fifteen days and permits a daily rate deviation of -4/+6 seconds, the new certification adds five days of testing on the complete watch, tightens the tolerance to -2/+4 seconds per day, introduces a 200 Gauss magnetic resistance requirement, and verifies the manufacturer's stated power reserve. Testing is conducted using a robot that simulates real-world wrist wear—a semi-dynamic protocol that moves beyond static positional testing. On paper, the upgrade is welcome. In practice, the questions begin immediately. The Magnetic QuestionTwo hundred Gauss is a meaningful step forward from a standard that previously had no magnetic resistance requirement at all. But context matters. Omega's METAS certification, introduced in 2015, already tests to 15,000 Gauss—a figure rooted in the realities of modern life, where smartphones, tablet covers, and magnetic clasps expose watches to fields that would have been exotic a generation ago. In 2026, 200 Gauss feels less like a forward-looking benchmark and more like a cautious concession—a threshold designed to be achievable by the widest possible range of manufacturers rather than one that reflects the electromagnetic landscape watches actually inhabit. The COSC will argue, reasonably, that a universal standard must remain accessible to independents and smaller manufactures, not just vertically integrated groups with proprietary anti-magnetic materials. That argument has merit. But it also reveals the central tension: a standard calibrated for broad adoption inevitably sacrifices ambition. COSC Standard of Chronometry 2026-2.jpg COSC Standard of Chronometry 2026-4.jpg COSC Standard of Chronometry 2026-3.jpg COSC Standard of Chronometry 2026-1.jpg The METAS ShadowIt is impossible to discuss the Excellence Chronometer without acknowledging that METAS has occupied this territory for over a decade. METAS tests finished watches, evaluates magnetic resistance at levels that dwarf the COSC's new threshold, verifies power reserve, and measures daily rate within a -0/+5 second window — all administered in partnership with the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. The Excellence Chronometer arrives not as a pioneer but as an institution catching up. That is not inherently a criticism — universally available standards serve a different purpose than proprietary ones — but the COSC's press materials, rich with language about "setting the tempo" and "elevating precision," suggest an organization that wants to be seen as leading rather than following. The reality is more nuanced. Who Climbs? The practical question is which brands will pursue the new certification. Brands like Rolex, Omega, and Breitling—the three largest users of COSC—each have in-house testing protocols that already meet or exceed the Excellence Chronometer's parameters. For them, the additional certification may be redundant. The real beneficiaries may be mid-range and independent brands that lack proprietary testing infrastructure. For a Longines, Tissot, or Frederique Constant, the Excellence Chronometer could provide a credible, third-party-verified quality claim that distinguishes their offerings. Whether these brands will absorb the additional cost—and whether consumers will pay for it—remains open. The Verdict, for NowThe COSC deserves credit for doing what institutions of its stature rarely do: admitting that its existing standard, while still valid, no longer represents the ceiling of what Swiss watchmaking can deliver. The inclusion of power reserve verification and simulated wrist wear addresses real-world performance in a way the original ISO 3159 protocol never attempted. Pilot testing begins in March, a public presentation follows at Watches and Wonders in April, and deployment starts in October — a measured, deliberate rollout sensible for an institution whose credibility depends on procedural rigor. But "better than before" is not the same as "best available." At 200 Gauss, the magnetic resistance threshold invites immediate comparison with standards operating at orders of magnitude above it. And arriving a full decade after METAS established the principle of cased-watch certification positions the COSC as a fast follower rather than the standard-setter its rhetoric suggests. The COSC has opened a new chapter. Whether it has written a compelling one depends entirely on what follows.More info on COSC, here. A handful of manufacturers, Swiss and independent alike, have chosen to mark the American semiquincentennial directly on the dial, while others offer a palette that feels simply right for the occasion: sunburst blue with a flash of red or simply a gorgeous blue. Below are five watches worth a second look this Independence Day. Two of these watches were built for this exact anniversary. The other three just happen to wear the colors well. Either way, this is as good a lineup as any to mark 250 years with a wrist worth looking at. Zenith Chronomaster Revival A384 Liberty II EditionOf everything on this list, none wears its patriotism as literally as the Liberty II. Zenith revisited the tonneau-shaped A384 from 1969 and layered it with genuine symbolism: a white-lacquered dial with blue subdials at three and six o'clock, a full blue tachymeter scale, and the "250" on that scale along with the "4" on the date disc both picked out in red. The chronograph seconds hand carries 13 alternating red and white stripes lifted straight from the flag's original colony count. The case back is engraved "AMERICA 250th ANNIVERSARY." Inside is the El Primero 400, beating at 36,000 vph with roughly 50 hours of power reserve. The steel version is limited to 250 pieces at USD 10,600; a 25-piece forged carbon edition on a blue Cordura strap runs USD 13,400. Both are exclusive to the U.S. market. Read the full editorial here. Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin 250No blue on this dial, and it earns its place here anyway. Laurent Ferrier has had a particular bond with American collectors since its 2010 debut at the GPHG, and the Classic Origin 250 is the independent atelier's thank-you note: 25 pieces, exclusively for the U.S., built on the brand's familiar 40mm pebble-polished titanium case. The beige opaline dial carries a ghosted rendering of language from the founding document that fades in and out as the wrist moves, framed by 18K white gold Assegai hands. The manual-wound calibre LF116.01 delivers an 80-hour power reserve behind a sapphire caseback, finished with Laurent Ferrier's signature long-blade ratchet. Sticker price is USD 44,000. Read the full editorial here. Patek Philippe Split-Seconds Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5204G-010No anniversary backstory here, just a palette that does the talking. Introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026, the 5204G-010 pairs a fully polished 40 mm white gold case with a navy blue sunburst dial and red accents on the chronograph hands and the stitching of the composite strap. The red isn't decorative; it gives the eye an anchor point amid a dial dense with a tachymeter scale, twin subdials, and perpetual calendar apertures. Powering it is the manual-wound calibre CH 29-535 PS Q, a 496-part movement combining a split-seconds mechanism with a full perpetual calendar. Sticker price is USD 380,971. Read the full editorial here. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points BluePart of a four-cardinal points edition tracing its lineage to a titanium prototype built for photographer and mountaineer Cory Richards, the Cardinal Points collection assigns each of four dial colors to a compass direction. Blue stands for the East, "where ocean meets sky." The 41 mm titanium case and integrated bracelet share the same matte anthracite finishing across all four references, powered by the in-house calibre 5110 DT/3 with a 60-hour power reserve and a 22K gold wind-rose rotor visible through the caseback. It's the most understated blue on this list, and arguably the most wearable. Read the full editorial here. Chopard L.U.C 1860 Lucent Steel Areuse BlueChopard's Fleurier manufacture turned 30 this year, and the L.U.C 1860 in Areuse Blue was its response: restrained rather than celebratory. The 36.5mm Lucent Steel case holds an 18K white gold dial, hand-guilloché on a vintage lathe, in a blue named for the river running past the manufacture. COSC- and Poinçon de Genève-certified, with a 65-hour power reserve. Nothing about it shouts the Fourth of July, but the blue is deep enough to earn its spot regardless. Read the full editorial here. That detail is the operating principle behind tennis's longest-running sponsorship.Rolex became Wimbledon's Official Timekeeper in 1978, and in the 48 years since, it has built one of watchmaking's most disciplined marketing exercises: the crown on the scoreboard and the clock over Centre Court, nothing louder than that. The relationship works because it refuses to behave like a sponsorship; it behaves like an institution. Collectors have spent years crediting Rolex for a design it has never officially released under that name: the so-called "Wimbledon" Datejust, a slate grey dial ringed in green Roman numerals that has never appeared in a Rolex catalog described that way. Collectors made the connection. Rolex let it stand.Which brings us to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 100th Anniversary ref. 134303, unveiled this year at Watches and Wonders Geneva to mark a far larger milestone: a full century since Rolex patented the hermetically sealed Oyster case that made its modern sports watch lineage possible. Arguably the most significant anniversary Rolex has marked in a generation, the brand chose to observe it not with a platinum limited edition, but with the plainest watch in its lineup—a restraint befitting the invention itself. The dial is slate, a genuinely new color for the Oyster Perpetual range, set against applied 18K yellow gold hour markers and hands filled with Chromalight. Green marks every five-minute interval on the outer track, and the Rolex signature is printed in the same green rather than the usual gilt or white. In every measurable respect, it is the Wimbledon Datejust's palette, on a watch whose actual subject predates lawn tennis's association with Rolex by half a century. The rest carries the same quiet confidence. The 41 mm Oystersteel case pairs with an 18K yellow gold bezel and winding crown—Rolesor —and is the first time that combination has appeared on a modern Oyster Perpetual at this size—worn, unusually, on a full stainless steel bracelet rather than a matching two-tone one. The crown carries a small "100" beneath the coronet, and "100 years" replaces the usual "Swiss Made" signature at 6 o'clock. Inside sits calibre 3230, regulated to the 2026 Superlative Chronometer standard of -2/+2 seconds a day, with roughly 70 hours of power reserve. The Oyster bracelet remains entirely in steel; the watch is water-resistant to 100 meters and priced at USD 9,650. It has spent 48 years letting a tournament's clocks speak for its precision and 100 years letting a case speak for its durability, without needing to explain either. The Oyster turns 100 the same month its most visible tennis ambassador defends a title in a color scheme collectors have nicknamed "Wimbledon" for years. Rolex did not confirm the connection. It never does. But for us, this is the "Real Wimbledon Watch."More info on Rolex here. News: Rolex Supports the Opening of National Geographic's Reimagined Base Camp in Washington, D.C. Since 1996, the Overseas has been the Maison's answer to the season that punishes everything else in a collection—hot metal bracelets, curling alligator straps, dials never meant to see saltwater. The tool-free interchangeable strap system is not incidental. Five watches from the collection make the case for packing light this summer and allowing your wrists to enjoy the comfort that rubber straps bring to the table. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding Ultra-Thin PlatinumThe thinnest Overseas ever made, at 39.5 mm and 7.35 mm thick, cased in 950 platinum hardened for 2.7 times the scratch resistance of the standard alloy. The new calibre 2550 micro-rotor movement is just 2.4mm thick with an 80-hour power reserve, and the beige rubber strap in its three-strap set proves even a limited-edition platinum piece belongs on a boat. Read the full Overseas Self-Winding Ultra-Thin editorial here. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Burgundy DialThe 41.5 mm 18K white gold case is just 8.1 mm thick thanks to the ultra-thin calibre 1120 QP/1, a mere 4.05 mm on its own, with a 40-hour power reserve and a 22K compass-rose oscillating weight. The interchangeable system swaps the bracelet for red or white rubber, the white rated to 50 meters and built with a Miami trip or the beach in mind. Read the full Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Burgundy Dial editorial here. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal PointsThe sequel to the Everest editions, with four dials mapped to compass points—white, brown, green, and blue —and a calibre 5110 DT/3 that handles both time zones from the crown. For a summer built around time zones, this is the Overseas at its most functionally honest. Read the full Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points editorial here. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde DateThe first sports watch and the first Overseas ever fitted with a retrograde display, the 41 mm steel case carries the collection's signature blue lacquered dial with a velvet-finish flange and sunburst satin-brushed center. The automatic movement handles winding, time, date, and moon phase entirely from the crown, and the strap swaps between bracelet, rubber, and calf in seconds. Read the full Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date editorial here. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Titanium BlueCase, bracelet, bezel, and crown are all Grade 5 titanium, keeping total bracelet weight to just 110 grams despite housing the ultra-thin tourbillon calibre 2160. Two additional straps, blue calfskin and rubber, come on a self-interchangeable titanium clasp. Read the full Overseas Tourbillon Titanium Blue editorial here. Field NotesTogether, these five watches show that Vacheron Constantin's summer strategy was never one watch but a system—steel, titanium, and platinum cases across four complications, each with a rubber strap in the box as a legitimate first choice. The award carries a €150,000 scholarship and a year-long mentorship at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. It follows Raúl Pagès and his RP1 Régulateur à Détente, which took the inaugural prize in 2024. It is also the second major recognition for the duo, who won the F.P. Journe Young Talent Competition in 2023 with an earlier iteration of the very same watch. That watch, the Montre École—School Watch—is the real story here. And it deserves scrutiny on its own terms, independent of the trophy. What the Watch Actually DoesThe 10-piece limited edition Hazemann & Monnin School Watch pairs two complications that rarely coexist in a 39.5 mm steel case: an instantaneous jumping hour and a sonnerie au passage—a striking mechanism that chimes autonomously at the top of each hour. Both functions are driven by a single snail cam at the centre of the movement, which accumulates energy over sixty minutes. As the feeler of the grande bascule lever—tipped with a ruby to reduce friction—falls off the snail's edge, one arm advances the twelve-tooth hour wheel at 12 o'clock while another lifts the hammer to strike the gong. The entire sequence occurs simultaneously, visible through the dial side. This is not a minute repeater. It does not strike on demand. It strikes in passing, a complication with deep roots in pocket watchmaking and clock-tower horology, but one that remains exceptionally rare in a modern wristwatch. The distinction matters: a sonnerie au passage must function reliably hour after hour without user intervention, which imposes different engineering constraints than a repeater activated by a slide or pusher. The energy management is continuous, not episodic. To make the watch even more relevant, the openworked dial is graced with a malachite hour dial and two opal subdials for the minutes and running seconds. The manual-wound movement powering this watch is the calibre HM01, which is entirely designed in-house. The original school watch was built on a La Joux-Perret 6900 base; the production version shares nothing with it. Architecture is vertically aligned with the barrel, center wheel, and balance stacked along a single axis across distinct planes to create visual depth. A large 13 mm variable-inertia balance oscillates at 18,000 vph with a 50-hour power reserve. Bridges and main plate are German silver, hand-frosted with silicon balls, with wide 0.6mm chamfers. The balance bridge and center wheel bridge are steel, finished in black polishing. For the gong, Hazemann and Monnin tune each one by hand as they file away material, listening and adjusting pitch, resonance, and clarity by ear. There is no shortcut here. This is craft at its most irreducible. Two Watches, Two IdentitiesThe School Watch exists in two versions, each limited to 10 pieces. The Hazemann edition is the technical expression: openworked sub-dials, blue accents, and a monobloc case middle. Meanwhile, the Monnin edition is the artistic counterpart: malachite and opal sub-dials, soldered lugs, and a different case profile entirely. Each version bears only one maker's name on the dial. The idea is not a sporty-versus-dressy split; it is a philosophical one. Two watchmakers trained together at the Lycée Edgar Faure in Morteau, built their school watches collaboratively, and then channelled that shared foundation into distinct personal visions. This duality is embedded in the brand's DNA, and it is the most honest articulation of a partnership this side of Greubel Forsey. What the Prize SignalsThe Louis Vuitton Watch Prize was conceived by Jean Arnault as a vehicle to support independent watchmaking while, not incidentally, reinforcing Louis Vuitton's legitimacy in haute horlogerie. This is LVMH patronage, not LVMH acquisition. Louis Vuitton plays no role in selecting the winner; this year's jury included Kari Voutilainen, Carole Forestier-Kasapi, and Monochrome's Frank Geelen. The fact that the committee awarded Pagès in 2024—a low-volume artisan, not a brand ripe for buyout—set an important precedent. Awarding Hazemann & Monnin continues in that direction. But the selection also reflects something else: a shifting appetite among collectors and institutions alike for independent watchmakers who can deliver genuine complications rather than finely finished time-only watches. The School Watch's Sonnerie au passage, visible dial-side spectacle, and in-house calibre checked every box the jury appears to have been looking for: technical ambition executed with artisanal rigour by makers young enough to represent the next generation.Hazemann and Monnin now employ around fifteen people at their atelier in Saint-Aubin-Sauges, on the shore of Lake Neuchâtel. A new variation of the School Watch is expected later this year, and a new complication in a new case is slated for 2027. All twenty pieces of the first two editions have been sold and delivered. But the signals have been clear for years—if you know where to look. Between Thierry Stern's public statements, the discontinuation theater, and the strategic repositioning through the Cubitus, Patek has telegraphed exactly what collectors should expect. And more importantly, what they shouldn't. Signal One: Discontinuation as Strategy, Not AccidentThe 5711/1A's 2021 discontinuation wasn't an endpoint—it was a masterclass in scarcity management. Patek announced the discontinuation of the steel Nautilus, then immediately released the olive green dial reference 5711/1A-014 at USD 34,890, a hue never before seen in the collection. The Tiffany Blue collaboration followed, extending what should have been a farewell into a carefully orchestrated encore. The secondary market validated this strategy with frightening efficiency: watches we documented at USD 50,000 exploded to north of USD 180,000 for steel, while rose gold examples breached USD 500,000. When the white gold 5811/1G-001 emerged in October 2022—growing to 41 mm with a redesigned two-part case and a patented fold-over clasp at USD 64,620—the replacement strategy crystallized. Steel's permanent absence wasn't a gap to fill; it was a feature to maintain. Why would Patek resurrect what absence has made infinitely more valuable than presence ever achieved? Signal Two: Thierry Stern's Words as Strategic DoctrineMr. Thierry Stern hasn't been subtle about his steel philosophy. In a revealing 2021 interview with Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, he stated plainly: "I don't want us to have more than a third of steel watches. The steel Nautilus makes up a big part of that quota, and I don't like that." He went further, explaining that Patek "had to work very hard to get into the gold and platinum league, and that's where we should stay." When the 5811/1G emerged in white gold in October 2022, collectors anticipated it might be a placeholder—a temporary solution until steel's inevitable return for the 50th anniversary, mirroring the 3711G that preceded the 5711's 30th anniversary launch. Stern shut down that speculation decisively. In an interview with The New York Times, he confirmed no steel 5811 would follow: "We made enough." That's not a negotiation—it's a closed door. The Cubitus launch in 2024 reinforced this positioning. Mr. Thierry Stern explained that while steel exists in the collection, the message remains consistent: steel serves the brand, not the other way around. "Patek Philippe is not solely about selling steel. The way we've built the brand and the emphasis we've placed on the quality and level of our movements mean we must be cautious about relying solely on steel sales." These aren't isolated comments—they're a strategic doctrine spanning five years of interviews across multiple publications. Patek Philippe, under Thierry Stern, has systematically repositioned away from steel dominance, while the secondary market has validated this scarcity by pushing prices to unprecedented levels. The 5711/1A achieves more for Patek's mystique being unavailable than it ever could in current production. Signal Three: The 40th Anniversary PlaybookHistory provides the clearest signal. The Nautilus’ 40th anniversary in 2016 brought the platinum 5711/1P-001 in a 700-piece limited edition with diamond hour markers, a discreetly recessed anniversary logo “40 1976-2016”, and a commemorative legendary cork presentation box that replicated the box that accompanied the original Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 3700. This release gave a signal: precious metal, limited production, elevated pricing at USD 113,400. The watch sold out immediately despite costing more than triple the steel version's retail price, validating Patek's calculus that scarcity in precious metals generates more brand equity than accessibility in steel. With this release, Patek Philippe learned a crucial lesson: collectors would accept—even embrace—commemorative models that excluded them through material choice rather than arbitrary allocation. A platinum anniversary Nautilus with diamonds doesn't create waiting lists or secondary-market chaos because its price point self-selects the audience. The controversy surrounding steel allocation disappears when the barrier shifts from availability to affordability. The 2016 platinum reference remained desirable without generating the speculative frenzy and resentment that plagued steel models. It honored the anniversary appropriately—premium materials for a premium milestone—while maintaining Patek's positioning in "the gold and platinum league", Stern has consistently defended. Other brands' anniversary strategies reinforce this pattern: Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak Extra-Thin ‘Jumbo’ 50th ref. 16202 in 2022 was presented in platinum, as did Vacheron Constantin's 222 revival, released in yellow gold long before the stainless steel model was released almost three years later, in January 2025. The luxury watch industry has established a clear precedent: celebrate with exclusivity, not democratization. For Patek Philippe Nautilus’ 50th anniversary, this playbook essentially writes itself. The 2016 formula proved commercially successful, brand-appropriate, and free from allocation controversies. Therefore, why would Mr. Thierry Stern abandon a strategy that achieved every objective simply because a different audience hopes for something else? What Watches and Wonders 2026 Will Likely BringWill Patek Philippe bring back the Nautilus in stainless steel for the 50th anniversary? We don’t know for sure, but we have a few guesses. We think that, given the focus on precious metals and the discontinuation of reference 5711/1A, it’s unlikely that a stainless steel Nautilus makes an appearance. However, we believe that a faithful tribute to reference 3700/1A might be released in 18K white gold or 18K yellow gold with a tone-on-tone dial or a fully skeletonized dial. The watch could also feature a special interchangeable case back that lets you switch from a sapphire display case back to a solid case back like on the original Nautilus—this time with a 50th-anniversary special engraving—and accompanied by a celebratory presentation box like the 5711/1P-001. Maybe we will see a yellow gold, platinum, or rose gold 5740 perpetual calendar. We also believe that limited editions across different Nautilus complications would align with Patek's preference for elevating rather than democratizing access. Perhaps, we will see one or several new complications added to the Nautilus collection: a Nautilus Minute Repeater, a Nautilus Split-Seconds Chronograph, an Annual Calendar Travel Time, an Alarm Travel Time, a Chronograph Annual Calendar, or even a World Time if they can make it work within the squarish, roundish dial shape. What Won't AppearAn accessible return to stainless steel at reasonable pricing. The competitive dynamic that birthed the Nautilus with Gérald Genta's 1976 porthole design—commissioned to overshadow the Royal Oak's mid-1970s success—lives on through strategic absence rather than direct competition. Back in 1976, the Nautilus used subtle design choices that echoed the Royal Oak's aesthetic, the steel luxury sports watch positioning, borrowed the "Jumbo" nomenclature from it, and the porthole answered AP's octagonal bezel; these weren't coincidences but calculated responses. Today's calculation simply recognizes that the 5711/1A enhances Patek’s mystique more by being discontinued than it ever could if it were still in production. There’s no need to continue bringing a younger clientele through stainless steel; long gone are the stainless steel 5711s, 5980s, and 5712s. We foresee the rest of the stainless steel Nautilus watches available today will be discontinued, like the 5990, 5726, and the ladies’ Nautilus ref. 7118.The signals point to anniversary celebrations cloaked in precious metals and complications, commemorating fifty years by ensuring the icon remains forever beyond reach. Perhaps that was Genta's real genius, designing not just a porthole-inspired case, but a vessel for eternal longing that Patek Philippe has perfected, manipulating with precision. Since then, Rolex has gifted the world countless invaluable timepieces. In 1926, Rolex patented the screw-down crown, launching the Oyster model as the first waterproof watch. The Rolex Oyster turns 100 in 2026—a milestone that would, at most brands, trigger commemorative editions, special casebacks, and marketing fanfare. For Rolex, January 1st brought something different: a 7% average price increase across its lineup, the third such adjustment in 12 months. If you're searching for signals about what Rolex will deliver this year, the pricing tells you more than any anniversary press release ever could. Signal One: Rolex Doesn't Do Its Own AnniversariesIndustry observers noting the Oyster centenary should remember what Rolex ignored in recent years. The GMT-Master's 70th anniversary in 2024 went unnoticed. The Datejust's 80th in 2025 earned no special edition—unless we consider the Land-Dweller release as such. When the Submariner turned 70 in 2023, Rolex made a minor bezel hue adjustment without even issuing a press release. The most recent anniversary Rolex actually celebrated wasn't its own; it was the 100th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, which produced the white gold Cosmograph Daytona 100th Anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans ref. 126529LN with its 24-hour chronograph register and the ‘100’ marker on the bezel in red. Rolex has repeatedly stated, through industry sources, that it "resists using anniversaries as justification for new watches." The brand's website doesn't even mention that the green-bezel Submariner began as an anniversary model. This pattern is deliberate doctrine, not oversight. Signal Two: Pricing Is the StrategyJanuary 2026's price adjustments reveal Rolex's actual positioning strategy. Steel models climbed 5-6%, with the Submariner (No Date) moving from USD 9,500 to USD 10,050 and the GMT-Master II jumping from USD 11,300 to USD 12,000. Gold references absorbed 8-9% increases, driven mostly by record all-time high gold prices—today at USD 5,130 per ounce—and strategic brand elevation. The white gold Daytona rose from USD 51,800 to USD 56,400—a USD 4,600 jump that reflects confidence in sustained demand, regardless of accessibility. These aren't reactive adjustments to material costs. Steel prices haven't surged. Manufacturing hasn't changed materially. This is calculated scarcity management through pricing rather than product proliferation. Still, scarcity is managed at the boutique and authorized-dealer levels. Signal Three: The Explorer II Anomaly—and Its Own AnniversaryAmong Rolex's professional collection, one glaring gap persists: the Explorer II remains the only tool watch unavailable in Rolesor (two-tone) or precious metals. Only the Explorer 36 ref. 124273, released in 2021, is available in a Rolesor combination of oystersteel and 18K yellow gold. The Submariner offers stainless steel, Rolesor, and full gold combinations. The GMT-Master II is available in steel, Rolesor, and various gold variations, including Everose, white gold, and yellow gold. The Daytona exists in all metals—except titanium—, including platinum. The Yacht-Master is available across all metals, including titanium. Even the Sea-Dweller now offers two-tone variants, and the Deepsea is available even in full yellow gold. Yet the Explorer II—launched in 1971 and now marking its own 55th anniversary in 2026—remains exclusively in stainless steel. Just imagine what that would look like in a Rolesor or full gold variant, extremely good looking in our opinion.Below is WCL’s visualization of what the Explorer II in 18K Yellow Gold or in Rolesor would look like, to complete the professional collection's material matrix. Disclaimer: We are in no way affiliated with Rolex SA, nor authorized by them to intervene in their products for any reason whatsoever, and these images are for entertainment purposes only. Rolex SA is the owner of all trademarks, patents, and original designs. This dual milestone creates the perfect justification for material expansion. While Rolex resists celebrating its own brand anniversaries, individual collection milestones occasionally warrant acknowledgment when aligned with commercial strategy. The Explorer II's 42 mm case, fixed bezel, and cave-explorer heritage make it Rolex's most utilitarian professional watch, but utility hasn't stopped the brand from offering gold Submariners or gem-set Daytonas. For a brand aggressively pushing precious metal pricing across its sports lineup while simultaneously navigating two significant 2026 anniversaries—the Oyster case centenary and Explorer II's 55th—addressing this product gap with an 18K yellow gold Explorer II accomplishes multiple objectives: honors both milestones, creates margin-rich inventory without disrupting steel allocation, and completes the professional collection's material matrix. The timing has never been more strategic. What Watches and Wonders 2026 Will Likely BringEvolutionary refinements rather than commemorative spectacle. An 18K yellow gold and a Rolesor Explorer II would address the professional collection's only material gap. Continued Land-Dweller expansion following the very successful 2025 launch. New dial colorways across core sports models. Subtle Oyster centenary acknowledgment through brand storytelling at Watches and Wonders, possibly commemorative casebacks on select references. And perhaps even more improvements to the already-perfect Twinlock and Triplock screw-down crowns to continue maximizing waterproofing. What Won't AppearAccessible anniversary editions in steel. Special commemorative bezels or dials celebrating 100 years. Limited production runs that compromise brand discipline. Nostalgia-driven reissues. The centenary won't justify product strategy changes—Rolex's January pricing already delivered its anniversary statement. For the better part of two decades, it existed in the shadow of its simpler sibling, the 5711, which commanded waiting lists, secondary market premiums, and a cultural presence that transcended horology entirely. Yet it was the 5712—quieter, more mechanically ambitious, more horologically serious—that offered the clearer window into what Patek Philippe actually does best. The watch that matters more remains, to this day, the one fewer people talk about.Understanding the 5712 requires going back not to 2006, when the reference was introduced, but to 1976, when Gérald Genta's sketch became the Nautilus ref. 3700/1A—a luxury sports watch in steel, with an integrated bracelet, a porthole-inspired case sealed to 120 meters, and a movement thin enough to keep the profile elegant. Genta's genius was in understanding that a sports watch from Patek Philippe had to remain, above all, a Patek Philippe. That principle would define every Nautilus that followed, but none more faithfully than the 5712. From 3712 to 5712The idea of a complicated Nautilus did not begin with the 5712. That distinction belongs to the ref. 3712/1A, introduced in 2005—the first Nautilus to carry a power reserve indicator, moon phase, and date indication subdial. It housed the same calibre 240 PS IRM C LU that would define its successor, but within the older case architecture inherited from the 3710/1A-001 ‘The Comet’. Production lasted roughly one year, making the 3712 one of the shortest-lived and most sought-after modern Nautilus references. It was a proof of concept; the 5712 was the conviction. At Baselworld 2006, Patek Philippe simultaneously introduced the ref. 5711/1A and the ref. 5712/1A-001, which housed the 3712's complications inside an entirely modernized case: power reserve at 10 o'clock, moon phase at 7 o'clock, pointer date at 2 o'clock. The asymmetric layout offered a visual complexity that the symmetrical 5711 could never match. At 40 mm and approximately 8.52 mm thick, the 5712 wore with a discretion that belied its mechanical content. For those familiar with its predecessor, the Nautilus ref. 3712, it is very easy to recognize a ref. 3712 against a ref. 5712 is based solely on certain nuances on the dial. For those of you not that familiar, here are the main differences between the two watches and the telltale:On ref. 5712, the power reserve indicator includes four red dots before the number '12' instead of only three on ref. 3712.The numbers on the date indicator are considerably bigger on the ref. 5712 vs. the ref. 3712. Also on ref. 3712, the numbers from '11' through ‘23' are upside-down. Not that way on ref. 5712.The dial on ref. 5712 includes only 10 markers vs. 11 markers on the ref. 3712, which happens to include a tiny marker at 7 o'clock. Additionally, the marker at 8 o'clock is slightly longer on the dial of ref. 3712 and the 6 o'clock marker is complete, unlike the one on ref. 5712, which is slightly cut by the date indicator. The color of the moon and stars on the moon phase disc of ref. 5712 is more of a gold color rather than a dark silver on ref. 3712.Thinner hour and minute hands on ref. 5712.A more grayish blue hue on the dial of ref. 3712. Photo: ©Phillips Watches Calibre 240 PS IRM C LUThe base calibre 240, introduced in 1977, is among the most significant movements in Patek Philippe's modern history. At just 2.53 mm thick, it was one of the thinnest automatic movements in existence, made possible by a 22K gold micro-rotor integrated into the mainplate rather than sitting atop the movement as a conventional full rotor would. The suffix PS IRM C LU tells the rest: Petite Seconde, Indicateur de Réserve de Marche, Calendrier, and Lune. Despite this complication load, the complete movement measures only 3.88 mm in height—a figure that borders on the absurd for what it delivers. Patek Philippe chose to build outward from the calibre 240—a movement conceived for dress watches—and prove that complications and sports-watch proportions were not mutually exclusive. Three Metals, Three CharactersThe ref. 5712/1A-001 in stainless steel, with its blue-black gradient dial, was the icon—the version that appeared on waiting lists, launched a thousand "if I could only own one Patek" conversations, and after its discontinuation in January 2021, saw secondary market prices surge to multiples of retail. The ref. 5712G-001 in 18K white gold paired with the same blue dial with precious metal and on an alligator strap, offering collectors an alternative path that bypassed years-long steel waiting lists. White gold brought a gravitas that steel, for all its cultural cachet, does not possess. Then in 2022, the ref. 5712/1R-001 in 18K rose gold took a different approach entirely. Its brown-black gradient dial softens the Nautilus's industrial origins into something warmer, more classical. It remains the least discussed variant and, arguably, the most beautiful. It is also critically, the only 5712 still in current production—a fact that carries considerable significance as the Nautilus collection approaches a milestone year. What the Market MissedFor most of the 5712's production life, its secondary market premium was a fraction of the 5711s. This made it somewhat of a sleeper. The 5712 offered a more complex movement, a more interesting dial layout, a more distinctive visual identity, and a slightly smaller case size—all attributes serious collectors traditionally value. Yet the 5711's clean simplicity made it the object of desire for a generation of buyers whose interest in watchmaking was often more social than mechanical. The 5712 attracted a different buyer: someone who valued horological substance over recognizability. It was the "insider's Nautilus"—a designation that was both a compliment and a curse. When Patek Philippe discontinued the steel version in 2021, prices corrected with startling speed. The white gold followed out of the catalogue. Yet the rose gold 5712/1R endures—a quiet signal that Patek Philippe never intended this chapter to close entirely. Legacy — And What Comes NextThe Nautilus turns fifty in 2026, and as we analyzed in our Perspective on the Nautilus 50th anniversary, every signal from Geneva points toward precious metals and elevated complications rather than a return to steel. Mr. Thierry Stern has been explicit: Patek Philippe belongs in the gold and platinum league, and the strategic discontinuation of the steel 5711, 5980, and 5712 was doctrine, not accident.Within this framework, the survival of the 5712/1R in rose gold is not incidental. It keeps the calibre 240 PS IRM C LU alive in the Nautilus lineage. Whether Patek Philippe marks the anniversary with new complications on the Nautilus platform—a minute repeater, a split-seconds chronograph, an annual calendar travel time—or revisits existing references in precious metals, the 5712's DNA remains in production. The 5711 was the Nautilus the world wanted. The 5712 was the Nautilus Patek Philippe needed to make. Fifty years after Genta's sketch changed the industry, the more interesting question may be whether the 5712's story is approaching not its conclusion, but its second act.More information on Patek Philippe, here. The 2025 watch releases have showcased an extraordinary collection of horological masterpieces that push the boundaries of craftsmanship, innovation, and luxury. From perpetual calendars and world time complications to elegant dress watches and revolutionary new movements, this year's releases represent the pinnacle of Swiss and German watchmaking artistry. For those seeking the ultimate gift for a discerning collector, here are ten of the most impressive timepieces from 2025.Each watch on this list represents not just exceptional technical achievement, but also the heritage and prestige of the world's most respected watch houses. These are timepieces that will define the year in haute horlogerie and become tomorrow's collectibles. 1. Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 Steel Vacheron Constantin commemorates its 270th anniversary in 2025 with the release of the Historiques 222 in stainless steel, three years after the yellow gold version. Initially launched in 1977 and designed by Jörg Hysek, the 222 was an emblematic sporty-chic model, known as Jumbo for its large 37 mm case at the time. This reinterpretation preserves all the original design cues, including the case size. It adds a new triple-blade, double-folding clasp and a display case back that provides a full view of the new-generation calibre 2455/2. The monobloc case features a flat top and fluted bezel, paired with one of the most comfortable and refined bracelets available. The bracelet's articulation has been carefully redesigned for a more ergonomic fit. The craftsmanship is impeccable, and holding it in person feels like handling a pristine example from 1977. The watch is exclusively sold through Vacheron Constantin boutiques.Sticker Price USD 32,000. For more info on Vacheron Constantin click here. 2. Rolex Land-Dweller 40 Stainless Steel ref. 127334 The new Rolex Land-Dweller 40 reference 127334 features a white gold fluted bezel and is reminiscent of the discontinued Rolex Oysterquartz from the early 2000s. The dial features a honeycomb motif, and the watch has a Flat Jubilee bracelet that harmoniously integrates with the 40mm case, creating a seamless aesthetic. The innovative caliber 7135 movement operates at 5 hertz, delivering exceptional performance and a 66-hour power reserve. The most significant innovation is the Dynapulse escapement, a revolutionary alternative to the traditional Swiss lever escapement, where energy is transmitted by rolling rather than sliding. Through the transparent case back, the sparkle of the cut-out oscillating weight in yellow gold is visible, as is the delicate Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges.Sticker Price CHF 14,200. More info on Rolex here. 3. Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 6196P Salmon Dial The quintessence of timeless elegance and a perfect emblem of Patek Philippe style, the Calatrava collection welcomes reference 6196P, distinguished by the vintage charm of its salmon dial—opaline rose gilt—with obus style hour markers. The polished, understated platinum case measures 38mm in diameter. It is 9.33mm thick, featuring a smooth, beveled bezel, satin-finished flanks, and slender lugs that transition seamlessly into the shiny chocolate-brown alligator leather strap. As is the norm with Patek Philippe platinum watches, a diamond is set at 6 o'clock between the lugs. The watch is powered by the manual-wound calibre 30-255 PS, with a 65-hour power reserve and a stop-seconds function enabling time to be set to the exact second. This timepiece epitomizes the Patek look and is a statement watch for any serious collector.Sticker Price €46,800—approx. USD 51,300. For more info on Patek Philippe, click here. 4. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic Inspired by the iconic 1931 models, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic embodies the pinnacle of the Grande Maison's watchmaking mastery. The front features a lacquered blue Art Deco-style dial with a patented Grande Date for exceptional legibility. On the reverse, the world time complication is both innovative and intuitive. Equipped with a stainless steel case measuring 49.4 x 29.9 x 11.14mm, the watch features a 24-hour rotating disc with city names engraved directly on the case. At the same time, polished silver continents contrast beautifully against hand-lacquered blue oceans. Adjustments are made using a sliding pusher, allowing hour-by-hour corrections. The miniature world map is crafted through laser engraving and hand-applied lacquer. Powering the watch is the manual-wound JLC calibre 834, which provides a 42-hour power reserve. The watch comes with two blue leather straps, each created by Casa Fagliano.Sticker Price USD 21,200. More info on Jaeger-LeCoultre here. 5. Piaget Polo 79 White Gold Following its successful 2024 release in 18K yellow gold, the Piaget Polo 79 returned in stunning 18K white gold for 2025. While paying homage to the iconic Piaget Polo from the late 1970s and 1980s, the case has been slightly enlarged to 38 mm from the original 34 mm. This elegant sports watch is entirely in 18K white gold—dial, case, and bracelet—crafted in the same manner as its predecessor, which dazzled the jet set 45 years ago. The watch is powered by the ultra-thin calibre 1200P1 automatic movement, which is 2.35 mm thick, comprises 180 parts and 25 jewels, beats at 21,600 vph, and provides a power reserve of approximately 44 hours. The movement features blued screws, circular Côtes de Genève, circular-grained main plate, beveled bridges, wheels with a sunburst motif, and a gold micro-rotor oscillating weight engraved with the Piaget coat of arms. Due to its integrated bracelet construction, the watch wears slightly larger than its actual diameter.Sticker Price USD 73,000. For more info on Piaget, click here. 6. Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date 270th Anniversary The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date 270th Anniversary features a 42.5 mm case—9.79 mm thick—in 18K white gold or 18K 5N pink gold, available in a limited edition of 270 pieces each. The dials feature a subtle geometric motif inspired by the Maltese Cross, Vacheron Constantin's emblem since 1880. Set on the upper part of the dial, the retrograde date indication via a central hand is balanced by the moon-phase display at six o'clock. Following the Moon's cycle, it requires adjustment only once every 122 years. The sapphire case backs reveal the côte unique finish on the bridges of each calibre made for this anniversary. As a final touch, each movement is engraved with an emblem representing Vacheron Constantin's 270th anniversary. The watch is powered by the self-winding manufacture Calibre 2460 R31L/270, which has a 40-hour power reserve, and is delivered on a green alligator strap.Sticker Price USD 77,500. For more info on Vacheron Constantin, click here. 7. IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 Steel The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 in stainless steel marks a significant milestone as the first stainless steel model combining Gérald Genta's iconic Ingenieur design with Kurt Klaus' crown-operated perpetual calendar. This sophisticated timepiece features a 41mm stainless steel case and integrated bracelet, complemented by a striking blue dial with rhodium-plated hands and appliques. The perpetual calendar functions display the date, day, month, leap year, and moon phase, all of which can be adjusted via the crown. The moon phase display achieves remarkable accuracy, deviating just one day after 577.5 years. The distinctive grid pattern dial, composed of fine lines and squares, creates depth and beautifully plays with light. On the wrist, the watch exudes confidence, striking the perfect balance between a statement piece and everyday wearability. Sticker Price USD 36,900. For more info on IWC, click here. 8. Zenith Chronomaster Sport 160th Anniversary Edition To celebrate its 160th anniversary, Zenith presents the Chronomaster Sport in blue ceramic, one of three blue ceramic limited editions unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2025. The watch combines Zenith's mastery of high-frequency timekeeping with a dynamic, sporty design. Its 41 mm blue ceramic case, complemented by pump-style pushers, is paired with a blue sunray-finished dial featuring the brand's signature 3-6-9 tricolor overlapping counters. It is powered by the El Primero 36000 high-frequency automatic movement and features the world's first 1/10th-of-a-second indicator. This 311-part movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. The watch comes with both a blue ceramic bracelet and a blue rubber strap, easily interchangeable thanks to Zenith's innovative strap-changing system. This exclusive timepiece is a limited edition of 160 pieces.Sticker Price USD 22,700. More info on Zenith here. 9. A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Blue Dial 34 mm Ferdinand Adolph Lange's founding vision centered on creating timepieces that seamlessly blend precision, functionality, and elegance—a philosophy that continues to guide A. Lange & Söhne's creations today. The new 1815 faithfully upholds this tradition and is available with a 34 mm case in either pink or white gold. Measuring just 34 mm in diameter and with a remarkably slim 6.4 mm thickness, these new watches respond directly to the growing desire among watch enthusiasts for a more discreet interpretation of this classic three-hand timepiece. Its carefully considered proportions—modest in diameter yet perfectly balanced—coupled with an exceptionally slim profile, make this timepiece particularly appealing to discerning enthusiasts who gravitate toward understated elegance. The blue dial adds a vibrant yet sophisticated touch, while the meticulous craftsmanship enhances its presence without overwhelming the wearer.Sticker Price €27,000—approx. USD 29,500. For more info on A. Lange & Söhne, click here. 10. Cartier Tank Louis Cartier Automatic For the first time since the 1974 Automatique Jumbo, the Tank Louis Cartier collection features an automatic movement. Housed in a slightly larger case measuring 38.1mm x 27.75mm, it advances the design without losing the DNA that makes a Tank a Tank. Offered in both 18K rose and 18K yellow gold, the case retains the unmistakable rounded rectangular silhouette in a slightly larger yet still very wearable, thin profile at 8.18 mm. It feels modern but not overdone—more of an evolution than a reinvention. Each version is paired with a semi-matte alligator strap: brown for the rose gold model, and grey for the yellow gold. The black cabochon rises in all its glory on the crown. The ultra-thin automatic caliber 1847 MC allows the watch to maintain the slim, elegant proportions that define the Tank aesthetic while addressing long-standing collector demand for self-winding capability in this iconic design.Sticker Price USD 14,900. For more info on Cartier, click here. Final ThoughtsThe watches featured in my selection for Christmas gift giving showcase the remarkable breadth and depth of horological achievement in 2025. From IWC's technical perpetual calendar to Cartier's revolutionary automatic Tank, from Patek Philippe's elegant salmon-dial Calatrava to Zenith's bold blue-ceramic chronograph, this collection demonstrates that exceptional watchmaking takes many forms and expressions. What unites these diverse timepieces is their unwavering commitment to excellence. Each manufacturer has brought their unique expertise and heritage to bear, creating watches that honor tradition while embracing innovation. Whether you're drawn to the Germanic precision of A. Lange & Söhne, the French elegance of Cartier, the Swiss complications from Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, and IWC, or the sports luxury of Rolex and Piaget, there's a watch here that speaks to every facet of collecting. These watches represent not just significant financial investments but also emotional connections to brands and designs that have shaped horological history. They are conversation pieces, heirlooms, and works of functional art that will bring joy to their owners for decades to come.Whether for gifting or personal collection, any watch from this list would make an extraordinary addition to a serious timepiece collection this Christmas season. These are not merely purchases, but investments in mechanical artistry and craftsmanship that transcend trends and time itself. Perspective: Watch Partnership Number Four—Breitling Joins Aston Martin's Failed Relationships

The narrative writes itself, and indeed, it has written itself before. Three times before, to be exact. Breitling replaces Girard-Perregaux, which held the partnership from 2021 to early 2026. Girard-Perregaux replaced Richard Mille, which partnered with Aston Martin from 2016 to 2021. Richard Mille succeeded Jaeger-LeCoultre, whose collaboration produced the Master Hometime and Master Chronograph Aston Martin editions, among others, before ending sometime before 2016. Each partnership arrived with fanfare about aligned values. Each departed quietly, replaced by the next hopeful suitor. A Pattern Worth ExaminingThe question isn't whether Aston Martin and Breitling share historical touchpoints—they do, from the 1965 Thunderball pairing to legendary drivers wearing Navitimers during Aston Martin's 1959 Formula One debut. The question is why Aston Martin cannot maintain a watch partnership for more than five years.Consider what these dissolved partnerships represent. Jaeger-LeCoultre created elegant timepieces that captured the understated sophistication both brands claimed to value. Richard Mille was meant to produce collaborative watches that married automotive and horological engineering at the highest level. Girard-Perregaux invested deeply, creating five limited editions over three years and extending the partnership in February 2024—only to be replaced two years later. They even launched a new watch at the beginning of 2025, the Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition. Each brand delivered on the stated objectives. Yet each partnership ended. The Uncomfortable TruthAston Martin's watch partnerships function less as genuine collaborations and more as renewable sponsorship contracts masquerading as heritage and shared values. When Lawrence Stroll's consortium acquired Aston Martin F1 in 2021, out went Richard Mille, in came Girard-Perregaux. Now, with Adrian Newey's arrival and Honda as the new engine supplier for 2026, out goes Girard-Perregaux, in comes Breitling, backed by Partners Group's private equity resources and fresh from securing the NFL partnership—that’s a story for another day.Jefferson Slack, Aston Martin's managing director of commercial and marketing, told BlackBook Motorsport he hopes people will say "the relationship between Aston Martin and Breitling is the one that activated the most, was the deepest, the most well-thought-out, the most authentic." One cannot help but wonder if similar aspirations were expressed in 2021 about Girard-Perregaux, in 2016 about Richard Mille, and earlier still about Jaeger-LeCoultre. What This RevealsThese partnerships exist primarily as marketing vehicles rather than long-term strategic relationships. The watches themselves—however well-executed—serve as limited-edition merchandise to commemorate corporate agreements, not as genuine expressions of sustained collaboration. Breitling CEO Georges Kern acknowledges the crowded field of Formula One watch sponsors and emphasizes activation as the key to success. He's correct, but activation is marketing terminology, not the language of meaningful partnership. The Breitling partnership arrives with the usual promises: multi-year commitment, shared heritage, precision engineering. Kern expects it to last "at least three to five years minimum." One appreciates his candor. Richard Mille's "long-term global partnership" lasted five years. Girard-Perregaux managed roughly the same. But we've seen well-conceived timepieces before. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition, with its 21 layers of hand-applied Aston Martin Green paint, was equally accomplished. The Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition that followed showcased Grade 5 titanium and motorsport engineering. The Jaeger-LeCoultre editions offered understated elegance and genuine utility, such as the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX7 Chronograph in Titanium, which pushed the limits of horological advancement like no other, fitted with the world's only pusher-free vertical-trigger chronograph mechanism. And without a doubt, the most impressive execution of the partnership between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre was the AMVOX2 DBS Transponder, a watch that could lock or unlock an Aston Martin's doors by pressing the crystal at 9 and 3 o'clock, respectively. Clearly, by now, we know that excellence in execution doesn't guarantee partnership longevity. Aston Martin has now demonstrated this three times. Is the fourth time a charm? About the Breitling PartnershipThe multi-year agreement between Breitling and Aston Martin encompasses both the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and Aston Martin Lagonda road cars. Breitling branding appears on team apparel, the AMR26 Formula One car, and throughout the team's paddock club facilities. Future releases will include watches tied to vintage Aston Martin cars and the Lagonda marque. The partnership debuts at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, March 6-8, 2026.Breitling's first offering, the Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, limited to 1,959 pieces, marks the brand's first titanium Navitimer and is priced at USD 11,500. The watch features a 43 mm titanium case, chopped carbon fiber dial with British Racing Green accents, and the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber B01 with 70-hour power reserve. Other than the subtle British Racing Green specs on the dial, we don’t see much sense or integration of Aston Martin here. How Many More? How many more watch partnerships will Aston Martin announce with identical language about shared values? The watch industry continues to queue up eagerly, with Breitling joining a crowded Formula One field that includes TAG Heuer, Richard Mille, IWC, Tudor, and Hublot. Each brand competes for visibility and association with high-performance engineering. Each presumably understands that these partnerships serve defined marketing objectives over finite periods.Breitling may prove the exception, or in 2030 or 2031, we'll read another announcement about Aston Martin's new Official Watch Partner, complete with historical connections and promises of unprecedented activation. And we'll add Breitling to the list of dissolved partnerships, alongside Jaeger-LeCoultre, Richard Mille, and Girard-Perregaux. The pattern really suggests the latter outcome. Perspective: Why Every Serious Watch Collector Needs an Independent in 2026

The prejudice against independents stems from outdated assumptions that production scale equates to legitimacy, brand recognition determines quality, and resale liquidity justifies premium pricing. These beliefs might have held merit twenty years ago. Today, they represent blind spots, creating genuine opportunities for collectors who prioritize horological substance over brand cachet. That’s exactly why brands like Greubel Forsey, F.P. Journe, Philippe Dufour, De Bethune, and Akrivia are at an all-time high. The economic argument for independents begins with production limitations that established manufactures cannot replicate. For instance, De Bethune produces approximately 200 watches annually. Grönefeld produces fewer than 100. Ferdinand Berthoud, backed by Chopard, maintains production below 50 pieces across all references. These aren't artificial scarcity strategies—they reflect genuine manufacturing constraints where every component receives individual attention impossible at the large manufacture scale. When Patek Philippe produces around 60,000 watches annually, and Audemars Piguet exceeds 50,000, the math is straightforward: independent production represents genuinely limited availability rather than marketing theater. Collectors who dismiss independents as ‘too small’ or not well established enough, miss the fundamental point that scarcity without substance remains worthless, but substance with genuine scarcity creates long-term value. Consider recent auction results for F.P. Journe and other independents. The creative freedom independents demonstrate consistently exceeds manufacture capabilities constrained by shareholder expectations, heritage preservation, and market research committees. Block RG's geometric case architecture—featuring knife-edge angles and surfaces that challenge traditional finishing techniques—exists because founder Romas Gimbutis possesses both technical capability and creative autonomy. No manufacture risk committee would approve such radical departures from established aesthetics. Greubel Forsey presents complications within deliberately unconventional case proportions that prioritize wearability over market research data about optimal case diameters. Just look at the GMT Sport, which is all about ergonomics. These approaches don't emerge from manufactures burdened by quarterly sales targets and brand consistency requirements. Independent watchmakers create what they believe represents horological excellence rather than what focus groups indicate will sell. The finishing standards independents achieve often surpass manufacture execution despite—or perhaps because of—smaller production volumes. CVSTOS's visible architecture through their sapphire crystal cases showcases exceptional finishing, anglage, and hand-polished bevels across components that many manufactures would hide beneath solid case backs. The transparency serves two purposes: demonstrating finishing quality and making the mechanical operation visible. Watch collectors who've examined both the manufacture and independent finishing frequently report that independents match or exceed Holy Trinity standards at a fraction of the price. This isn't universal—some independents prioritize innovation over finishing perfection—but the best independent work rivals that of established names. The market hasn't recognized this reality through pricing, creating valuation disconnects favoring collectors who actually examine watches rather than relying on brand reputation. For instance, take a look at the latest releases from Armin Strom, like the Resonance GMT Manufacture Edition—a 50-piece limited edition. A young manufacture that produces fewer than 500 watches a year. The secondary market argument against independents—poor liquidity and low value retention—deserves examination rather than reflexive acceptance. Yes, independents face narrower collector bases than Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet. Yes, finding buyers requires more effort than selling mainstream references. But this market inefficiency works both ways. Buying independents at 30-40% discounts to retail because sellers struggle to find buyers creates acquisition opportunities unavailable with allocated manufacture pieces trading above retail. For collectors building personal collections rather than investment portfolios, liquidity concerns matter less than acquisition value. If you're wearing the watch rather than flipping it, narrow secondary markets represent buying advantages rather than exit problems.De Bethune and MB&F represent the pinnacle of independent watchmaking innovation, combining proprietary balance-wheel technology and a distinctive aesthetic identity. The MB&F LM Sequential Flyback showcases what independent watchmaking delivers compared with established manufacture alternatives at similar prices. Ferdinand Berthoud offers classical haute horlogerie executed with Chopard manufacturing support—independence with manufacture infrastructure backing. Grönefeld Brothers appeal to collectors who appreciate understated elegance and hand-finished movements, with every surface receiving traditional artisanal attention, and so exquisitely finished that they could be worn on their movement side. The trajectory favors independents as collecting demographics shift toward enthusiasts who research beyond brand names. Younger collectors educated through online communities and direct access to watchmakers increasingly prioritize technical merit over heritage storytelling. This demographic transition creates tailwinds for independents who've historically struggled against old manufacture marketing budgets and established distribution networks. Social media enables independents to reach collectors directly, circumventing traditional retail channels where manufacture relationships dominate shelf space. The tools favoring David over Goliath multiply annually. The number of new independent watchmaking brands released in the past three yours has more than doubled. From a watch-collecting strategy perspective, independents deserve meaningful portfolio allocation—not as speculative plays, but as opportunities to acquire genuine horological achievements at valuations divorced from brand premiums and inflated auction results. The watches exist; the watchmaking quality warrants attention; and the pricing reflects market inefficiency rather than intrinsic value. One of the biggest downsides of buying a watch from an independent brand is limited servicing options: most traditional watchmakers are not qualified to work on these watches, and parts won’t be sold to them directly. Additionally, their proprietary in-house calibres are sometimes unique and difficult to service.Independent watchmakers create what manufactures cannot: watches uncompromised by market research, production scale requirements, or shareholder expectations. That creative freedom deserves support from collectors who claim to value horological excellence. Lange & Söhne Opens Chicago Boutique in Tribune Tower A. Lange & Söhne has opened its newest American boutique at 435 Michigan Avenue in Chicago, re-establishing the Glashütte-based manufacture's retail presence in the U.S. Midwest. The location is the brand's ninth point of sale in the United States and joins recently opened flagships in London, Singapore, and Shanghai as part of an ongoing expansion of its global boutique network. The boutique occupies 131 square meters—1,409 sq. ft.—within Tribune Tower, the neo-Gothic landmark that served as headquarters of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Chicago Tribune for nearly a century. The building, which celebrated its centennial in 2025, anchors the Chicago River side of the revitalized Magnificent Mile—and offers an architectural resonance that few luxury retail locations can claim. The Tribune Tower's façade incorporates nearly 150 fragments of famous world architecture collected by Tribune correspondents across the 19th and 20th centuries, including a piece from the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and a piece of the Berlin Wall added in 1990. That date carries particular weight for Lange collectors: it was in 1990, directly following the fall of the Berlin Wall, that Walter Lange re-established his family's manufacture in Glashütte after decades of expropriation under East German rule. Spanning 1,409 square feet, the interior is designed to immerse visitors in the world of A. Lange & Söhne, rather than simply displaying its watches. Three distinct client seating areas, including two well-appointed private lounges, encourage the kind of unhurried, hands-on exploration that Lange's mechanical depth rewards. Bespoke installations throughout the space present key elements of the Lange universe, such as the jumping numerals mechanism of the Zeitwerk, the manufacture's tourbillon architecture, and the hand-finishing techniques applied to every Lange movement—offering collectors the opportunity to examine the brand's technical substance beyond the display case. The boutique will carry a full assortment of A. Lange & Söhne timepieces. View fullsize A. Lange and Söhne Chicago Boutique-14.jpg View fullsize A. The district now welcomes a 4,900-square-foot temple to horological excellence that redefines what a Rolex boutique can be.Luxury Swiss, the Holtzman family's authorized Rolex retailer with over three decades of partnership with Rolex, has opened a stunning new boutique at 182 NE 39th Street that marries Rolex's heritage with Miami's unique cultural landscape. This isn't simply a retail space—it's an immersive journey into the World of Rolex, conceived with the same meticulous attention to detail that defines a Perpetual movement. The exterior immediately commands attention. Drawing inspiration from Miami's proximity to the Atlantic, the façade employs dynamic colors and reflective finishes to capture the water's perpetual motion and energy. A vivid metal canelé motif in six distinct hues references Rolex's signature fluted bezel while evoking the ocean's shifting palette—a bold architectural statement that announces this boutique as extraordinary.Step inside and the atmosphere transforms. Soft travertine and warm American Walnut create a refined sense of tranquility throughout both levels, while a custom stucco fresco embedded in a signature Verde Alpi marble wall references Miami's iconic palm-lined skyline. Every surface, every curve pays homage to the city's Art Deco design legacy while incorporating subtle green accents that echo Rolex's brand DNA and the coveted green seal of Superlative Chronometer certification. The sculptural grand staircase serves as the boutique's centerpiece, accompanied by a bespoke two-story chandelier inspired by Rolex's iconic fluted pattern—form and function merging in dramatic fashion. Just as master watchmakers finish every surface of a movement whether visible or not, master artisans have crafted every element of this space with obsessive precision. Beautifully curated Rolex collections rest in luxurious showcases lined with beige leather and finished with bronze trim, presenting everything from sport models to precious metal dress watches in their proper context. The boutique offers multiple consultation environments for serious collectors, including semi-private and fully private spaces where clients can explore complications and case materials without distraction. Spacious lounge areas encourage unhurried consideration—because selecting a Rolex shouldn't feel rushed. On the second level, a welcoming hospitality bar creates the perfect environment for relationship-building conversations about horology, while a separate After Sales Service area provides transparency into the watchmaking craft. Here, clients can observe Rolex-trained watchmakers performing their delicate work, demystifying the expertise required to maintain these precision instruments. "Our family is deeply grateful for over 30 years of partnership with Rolex," says Steven Holtzman, Vice Chairman of Luxury Swiss. "The opening of our new Rolex Boutique in the Miami Design District—a premier destination for art, culture, and luxury shopping—offers an exceptional Rolex experience in a space that beautifully showcases the brand's timeless craftsmanship and heritage."As one of the first luxury retailers to establish itself in the Design District, Luxury Swiss has played an instrumental role in the area's evolution into a global destination. Continuing with our predictions for Watches and Wonders 2026, we do a deep dive into what the most important watch fair in the world could bring and what it won’t bring as Rolex celebrates 100 years of the Oyster Case, and as Tudor celebrates 100 years since the brand was registered in 1926. The editorial Perspective: The Oyster Case Turns 100—Reading the Signals on What Rolex Will and Won't Do for the Oyster's Centenary brings a deep analysis of what has happened at Rolex in the past few years and how the Explorer II—launched in 1971 and now marking its own 55th anniversary in 2026—remains exclusively in stainless steel. We provide WCL’s visualization of what the Explorer II in 18K Yellow Gold or in Rolesor would look like, to complete the professional collection's material matrix. Meanwhile, Perspective: Tudor Turns 100—What the Brand Will and Won't Do for Watches and Wonders 2026 provides a thought-provoking editorial on what we could expect from Tudor this year. Finally, we introduce the Chopard Zagato Lab One Concept watch, the third collaboration between this brand and the famous auto bodywork specialist Zagato. This is the lightest watch ever released by Chopard, and one of the lightest watches in the world at 43.2 grams—strap included. These five editorials collectively address the week's essential watch-collecting questions: where Rolex and Tudor are heading this year, whether we expect the Patek Philippe Nautilus to be resurrected in stainless steel, and where the industry is heading with its latest releases. These five essential editorials from January 19-23 provide frameworks for understanding where contemporary watchmaking stands in early 2026.Begin with TAG Heuer's remarkable leap into classical complications territory. The Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph represents the collection's first rattrapante execution in its 63-year history. The Calibre TH81-01 developed with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier delivers 350+ individually finished components housed in grade-5 titanium, while the translucent sapphire dial showcases hand-applied checkered flag motifs. The Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin 250 offers contrast as independent watchmaking celebrates the 250th anniversary of American Independence through refined restraint. The defining achievement appears in dial execution: the complete Declaration of Independence text rendered in beige-on-beige printing with red calligraphic colony initials. This represents horological storytelling at its most sophisticated, demonstrating how independent manufactures can address commemorative subjects with dignity rather than obvious patriotic gestures.Zenith's DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton Rose Gold pushes architectural transparency in haute complications. While not the Skyline line's first tourbillon, it represents the first skeleton treatment in this context. The automatic Elite 670 SK manufacture movement positions its tourbillon at 6 o'clock beneath dramatically skeletonized bridges, creating dimensional depth that rewards extended observation. MB&F's LM Sequential Flyback EVO demonstrates how complications can serve practical purposes beyond horological exhibition. Stephen McDonnell's dual chronograph system with flyback functionality enables simultaneous timing of two events—genuine utility in haute horlogerie's otherwise largely ceremonial complications landscape. The 621-component Calibre LM Sequential Flyback makes this technically complex piece surprisingly wearable for 44mm proportions. Finally, examine our Perspective piece on Richemont's sale of Baume & Mercier to Italy's Damiani Group. This transaction signals broader market realities about heritage alone proving insufficient for strategic value in contemporary luxury watch markets. Founded in 1830, Baume & Mercier carries nearly two centuries of Swiss watchmaking history, yet Richemont determined the manufacture no longer fit its portfolio focus—essential context for collectors evaluating which manufactures possess sustainable futures. These five editorials collectively address the week's essential collecting questions: where do traditional sport watch brands stand in haute complications, how do independents approach commemorative watchmaking, what defines contemporary tourbillon execution, which complications offer genuine utility, and what industry shifts affect manufacturer viability. This weekend, I'm recommending five essential editorials that collectively map a path through the most important considerations in watch collecting—from overlooked materials science overlooked by traditional collectors to market opportunities hiding in plain sight. Whether you're refining an established collection or beginning your horological journey, these pieces provide frameworks for making more informed, more personally meaningful acquisition decisions.Start with this week's examination of titanium in grand complications. "Why Titanium Is the Most Underrated Case Material in Haute Horlogerie" challenges the reflexive association between precious metals and precious watchmaking by demonstrating how manufactures like Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and De Bethune increasingly choose titanium for their most complex timepieces. The editorial presents specific examples spanning discontinued references, Holy Trinity execution, and independent innovation to demonstrate that titanium is the optimal material choice rather than an acceptable compromise. For collectors building wearable complicated watch collections, this perspective shift has immediate practical implications. The industry analysis in "Watches & Wonders 2026 Preview—What to Expect from Audemars Piguet's Return" provides context for April's most anticipated horological event. After six years absent from collective trade shows, AP's return signals broader market realities about isolation versus engagement. The piece examines what AP might unveil based on 2025's perpetual calendar focus, material innovations including titanium-BMG combinations and new ceramic executions, and strategic Code 11.59 expansion into more accessible price points. Understanding the manufacturer's trajectory helps collectors anticipate releases rather than react to them, creating opportunities for informed waitlist positioning and secondary-market timing."The Case for Buying Independent Watchmakers in 2026" presents the economic and creative arguments for allocating collection budget toward independents rather than exclusively pursuing manufacture pieces. Production limitations at De Bethune, Grönefeld, and Ferdinand Berthoud create genuine scarcity—not allocation theater—while creative freedom is unconstrained by shareholder expectations.Last week's "Five Watch Collecting Philosophies: Finding Your Path in 2026" established frameworks for understanding your collecting motivations—whether you prioritize technical purity, appreciation of complications, sports elegance, independent advocacy, or heritage revival. Returning to this piece after absorbing the week's material-focused and market-focused editorials helps clarify how tactical decisions about titanium versus precious metals, manufacture versus independent, or new versus vintage align with the overarching collection philosophy. Finally, revisit "2025—A Year of Horological Audacity and Pleasant Surprises" to understand how last year's releases set trajectories for 2026. The year-in-review editorial identified themes—ergonomic innovation in complications, material boundary-pushing, and independent creativity—that continue to evolve. Recognizing patterns across annual releases helps collectors distinguish genuine innovation from incremental updates deserving less attention and capital allocation. These five editorials collectively address the fundamental collecting questions: what materials truly serve complicated watchmaking, where is the industry heading, which manufactures offer overlooked value, what motivates your collecting, and how does the current moment fit within the broader horological context. Spend Sunday morning with them. Your watch collection strategy will benefit from the investment.
